    MedStar Health is looking for a Certified Staff Physicist to join our MedStar RadAmerica team! We are looking for a Certified Medical Physicist in therapeutic radiological physics.  

    As a Certified Staff Physicist, you will provide quality assurance, benchmarking, and document operation of therapeutic radiologic equipment. Provides quality assurance and design of treatment plan parameters for external beam radiation therapy.

    Primary Duties: 

    • Assists in brachytherapy treatments as needed. Attends and actively participates in journal club, chart rounds, quality assurance meetings, morbidity rounds and technical meetings and in addition to attend at least one scientific meeting annually.  

    • Ensure that all charts are checked weekly and in good order. Ensure that calibrations are performed at appropriate intervals for each machine. Ensure that each computer plan is checked by manual calculation before the second treatment and is also signed by the physician and treatment therapist.  

    • Ensure that preventative maintenance program is followed for all appropriate equipment. Minimize down time by ensuring that all repairs are executed in a prompt manner and all physics checks involved are done immediately following repairs. Follows all policies and procedures outlined in the organizational manual and makes recommendations regarding improvements in staff, equipment, and operations as appropriate 

    • Maintain quality assurance programs for all major equipment daily, weekly, monthly, and annually. This program should comply with all current quality assurance standards. 10. Maintains good radiation safety practices including practicing ALARA education on safe practices to personnel and keeping adequate safety records. Must be available for consultation at the request of the physician, dosimetrist, or therapist. Provide technical assistance in the simulation or treatment rooms whenever needed. 

    • Performs initial calibration, testing and acceptance of all new equipment before releasing this equipment for clinical utilization. Provides education to the technical staff on physics subjects when needed. To work on any special projects that are needed. Satisfies all current license requirements, renewals, or new license request and to follow the State of Maryland certification requirements and become a licensed state inspector. Verify or conduct calculations needed. Verify or conduct treatment planning as needed. 

     

    Qualifications: 

    • Master's or Doctoral degree in medical physics, Physics, or Health Physics or Engineering plus 1 year specialty training in a postgraduate program for Medical Physics.  

    • 6 months clinical radiation therapy physicist experience. 

    • American Board of Radiology (ABR) Certification or American Board of Medical Physicists (ABMP) certification.
