Position Description:

*OVERNIGHT SHIFT* 9pm - 5am

Under general supervision of Lab Department Manager / Laboratory Operations Manager / Senior VP Laboratory Operations, the Lab Aid/Assistant obtains, enters, records and sets up specimens received from referring Hospitals, Physicians, Clinics, and Ambulatory Surgery Centers.

Position Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assists with case assembly and QA
• Performs reagent recycling
• Aligns specimens on trays with appropriate cassettes for grossing personnel.
• Shelves and stores specimens in numerical order, in accordance with standards and the operational policies and procedures.
• Retrieves specimens, slides or blocks for pathologists as required.
• Maintains specimen inventory.
• Disposes of specimens as necessary and in accordance with Tissue Disposal policies and hazardous waste disposal policies.
• Prepares slides and blocks to be filed (including scraping slides) in accordance with operational guidelines.
• Prepares solutions
• Puts away supplies and assist in inventory control
• Keeps grossing room stocked, cleaned and tissue disposed of properly
• Assists with instrumentation maintenance
• Assist in logistic center, readying slides for couriers
• Other duties as assigned by Histology Supervisor and/or Director of Operations.

Regulatory Responsibilities

• Conduct business in a responsible manner that complies with all state, CLIA, CAP, OSHA and HIPAA regulations, or Joint Commission as applicable. Provide leadership in daily operations, and have employees incorporate these compliance practices into their daily routines.

Education:

High School Diploma

Professional Experience:

2-3 years similar experience.

Special Requirements:

Medical terminology

Proficiency with Computer Skills

Satisfactory audio-visual acuity and the ability to speak, read and write English
