Physician - Pathology examines diseases using fluids, body tissue, secretions, etc. to ascertain cause, nature, and extent of disease and to determine effectiveness of treatment. May perform autopsy to ascertain exact cause of death, and source or extent of disease and effects of treatment. Being a Physician - Pathology requires an advanced degree.   • JOB SUMMARY & QUALIFICATIONS

    Job Summary: Performs a variety of routine, quality control and specialized pathology laboratory tasks under the direction and supervision of histotechnologists. Assists the histotechnologists and pathologists in the handling and preparation of a variety of human pathology specimens in the disciplines of clinical histology and cytology. Provides processing, embedding, staining and slide preparation of selected specimens for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease. In addition to pathology laboratory tasks, this position must assist with registering patients, accessioning histology and cytology specimens, as well as providing administrative support to the Pathology laboratory.

    Incumbents are identified as "Waste Handler-Satellite Collection Area" employees. These employees must complete the NHDES required hazardous waste level training as defined in the SJH Hazardous Waste Training Plan-2014 as administered by the St. Joseph Hospital Safety Officer.

    Education:

    • High School Graduate required
    • Associates degree or equivalent desirable
    • Completion of the American Society for Cytotechnology (ASCT) Non-GYN Specimen Processing course is desirable

    Experience:

    • A minimum of one year experience in a medical laboratory environment which includes experience handling and processing human clinical specimens
    • Previous experience in an anatomic pathology laboratory is preferred
