Physician - Pathology examines diseases using fluids, body tissue, secretions, etc. to ascertain cause, nature, and extent of disease and to determine effectiveness of treatment. May perform autopsy to ascertain exact cause of death, and source or extent of disease and effects of treatment. Being a Physician - Pathology requires an advanced degree. Requires State License to Practice Medicine. Additionally, Physician - Pathology typically reports to a medical director. Physician - Pathology's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Pathologist Assistant - Anatomic Pathology - Day

    Hours: Monday - Friday, Day Shift

    General Summary

    Provides anatomic pathology services. Assist with preparing and dissecting surgical specimens. Prepares and selects tissue samples for analysis. Qualified to do all the work leading up to (but not including) diagnosis - including tissue banking, gross examination of surgical pathology specimens, and complex surgical resections and autopsies.

    Essential Functions:

    • Participates in the examination, description, dissection, and processing of tissue samples and is also qualified to participate in gross autopsy dissection.
    • Assists with intraoperative tissue consultations and other special procedure tissue examinations and preparation.
    • Obtains biological specimens (e.g. blood, tissue) for studies such as flow cytometry, cytogenetics, immunohistochemistry, etc.
    • Photographs pertinent gross specimens or microscopic slides.
    • Ensures proper maintenance of equipment.
    • Cleans or assists in the cleaning of the Pathology suite and other appropriate sites.

    Common Expectations:

    • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the assigned patient population. Assesses and interprets patient age specific data and provides appropriate, age specific treatment. Provides direct patient care to assigned patient age group(s).
    • Demonstrates a commitment to patient, visitor, and staff by: complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors, as well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and "error proof" systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required.
    • Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
    • Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings.
    • Maintains required records, reports, and statistics as directed.
    • Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.
    • Assists in care and maintenance of laboratory work area and furnishings/equipment.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Education:

    • Bachelors Degree with a major or minor in a biological or allied health field Required and

    • Masters Degree Preferred

    Work Experience:

    • 3 years Related experience. Required
