    Employed by PAGNY for NYC Health Hospitals/Harlem, located on 135th Street in Manhattan, is a designated Level 1 Trauma Center and is recognized for providing centers of excellence in the areas of Bariatric Surgery, Breast Imaging and Sexual Assault Forensics. Our teams provide services for nearly 213,000 outpatient visits, more than 83,000 emergency room visits and over 13,000 inpatient admissions annually. The hospital maintains an academic affiliation with Columbia University Medical Center

     

     

    Responsibilities

    Direct, oversee, manage and evaluate all aspects of clinical services and medical education provided by members of the Department to deliver pathology services that meet all standards required by regulations, perform full range of administrative/operational responsibilities to ensure the efficient achievement of departmental goals and effective delivery of pathology care to patients and the community at large, in conjunction with the Chief Medical Officer, the Executive leadership of the facility and the H H Board of Directors.

    The Chief of Service is the leader of the department. The leader is challenged to help his/her department to evolve. The Chief of Service will be actively engaged in the measurement and management of high-quality pathology services that efficiently supports our clinical services.

     

    • Set expectations, monitor, document, and manage the performance of all clinical and non-clinical staff who report to this position.
    • Provide direct and indirect support for the OPPE/FPPE
    • Exercise responsibility for the quality and efficiency of pathology/laboratory services including, but not limited to, the performance of ongoing performance improvement activities and compliance with all Performance Indicators, within your appointed specialty area.
    • Exercise responsibility for such other Departmental duties including, but not limited to, making recommendations for the granting of Pathology Staff privileges, and the appointment and reappointment of Pathology Staff, as set forth in the Regulations
    • Reports to the Chief Medical Officer, with respect to the performance of the Contract Services Providers under your direction and supervision; represent your appointed specialty area(s) in a medical advisory capacity to the H H System and the Chief Medical Officer; cooperate with the H H System with respect to the purchase of supplies and equipment and the development of capital projects; and formulate special policies and procedures and techniques.
    • Design, implement and manage policies, systems and processes within the department to ensure the efficient and effective achievement of established goals, such as meeting regulatory benchmarks.
    • Comply with all applicable state or federal laws and regulations or rules set forth by regulatory bodies.

    Qualifications

    • Graduate from an accredited medical school
    • Must have a valid NYS medical license 
    • Board Certified in Pathology
    • Time must be divided into Clinical 50% in the direct care of patients, Administrative 50%
    • 5 years leadership experience
    • Prior Blood Bank knowledge strongly preferred
