    Position Title: Research Technician – Infectious Disease Drug Discovery
    Reports To:
    Status: Exempt/Non-Exempt
    Job Type: Full-time
    Supervises: N/A
    Location: Office

    The successful candidate will have wet lab experience in microbiology, biochemistry, and/or
    molecular biology, which they will apply to develop and optimize biochemical assays of drug
    efficacy, as well as to construct genetically engineered mycobacterial strains with utility in
    mechanism of action determination and target identification. We seek a detail-oriented team
    member who enthusiastically engages in shared tasks and has a drive to advance their
    knowledge, with demonstrated skill in planning, prioritizing, and executing projects to meet
    commitments. Experience with preclinical animal models and cell culture is desirable.

    Responsibilities:

    • Apply microbiology and molecular biology techniques to genetically engineer microbes
    for target deconvolution and recombinant protein expression.
    • Express and purify recombinant proteins from various bacterial pathogens for in vitro
    biochemical assays to determine small molecule inhibitor efficacy.
    • Mammalian and bacterial cell culture, and preparation of viral stocks using aseptic
    culture techniques, transformation, transduction, infection and viability assays.
    • Record and analyze data, as well as write and present reports on research findings.
    • After required training, conduct some studies in a biosafety level 3 (BSL3) environment.
    • Assist in studies of antimicrobial efficacy in mouse models of mycobacterial disease.
    • Preparation of growth media, solutions, and laboratory supplies.
    • Perform other tasks as required


    Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in biological sciences or related discipline.
    • Knowledge of recordkeeping practices.
    • Ability to interact with various people using tact and discretion.
    • Work effectively despite interruptions.
    • Ability to work as part of a team and independently utilizing good judgment.
    • Knowledge of written and oral communication skills sufficient to permit clear and
    effective exchange of information with people representing a wide diversity of discipline
    and levels of sophistication.

    • Detail oriented and an ability to organize tasks, reports, or other documentation to
    maintain regulatory compliance.

    Lifting Requirements:

    SEDENTARY Lifting up to 10 pounds maximum and occasionally lifting and/or carrying small items (files, manuals, binders)

    LIGHT Lifting 20 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects up to 10 pounds

    X MEDIUM Lifting 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds

    HEAVY Lifting 100 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects up to 50 pounds

    VERY HEAVY Lifting objects in excess of 100 pounds with frequent lifting and or carrying objects weighing 50 pounds or more
