GENERAL SUMMARY

The Emergency Medicine Physician is responsible for providing high-quality care to all patients seeking care in our emergency departments.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Performs directed histories and physical exams on ED patients
• Writes orders for laboratory, EKG, and imaging studies
• Orders appropriate treatment including IV fluids and medications
• Performs procedures such as wound management, splinting, incision and drainage, epistaxis control, and others specified by delineation of privileges
• Requests consultation as indicated by patient's clinical presentation and acuity
• Communicates with primary and consulting physicians
• Performs urgent and emergency procedures as dictated by the clinical presentation and EM core content
• Makes patient dispositions to home, inpatient admission, or transfer as clinically indicated
• Generates clear and complete patient records on every patient encounter
• Generates clear and complete discharge instructions, prescriptions, and follow up information for discharged patients
• Supervises MEMN APPs in accordance with MEMNs APP Oversight Policy
• Follows hospital and departmental policies and procedures
• Attends departmental and medical staff meetings
• Fulfills usual medical staff responsibilities in accordance with bylaws

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience

• Degree from an accredited medical school
• Successful completion of accredited residency in EM
• Board certification or board eligibility in EM

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Must be able to fluently read and speak English
• Knowledge of organizational policies, procedures, and systems
• Skilled in interpersonal communication, including the ability to effectively communicate with patients and families
• Ability to de-escalate tense situations and agitated patients
