Physician Assistant - Surgical jobs in Connecticut
Physician Assistant - Surgical under the direction of physician, performs first assistant surgical duties, including tissue retraction and suturing. Completes pre-op tasks including physical examinations and recording health history. Being a Physician Assistant - Surgical orders appropriate laboratory and radiographic tests. Participates in daily patient rounds, writes progress notes, conducts patient education, writes prescriptions, and prepares discharge summaries Requires completion of the PANCE exam administered by National Commission of the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Additionally, Physician Assistant - Surgical requires a master's degree of Health Sciences for Physician Assistants or related. Typically reports to a physician. Requires Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C). Requires State license to practice. Physician Assistant - Surgical's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Griffin Hospital is seeking a full-time physician assistant to support surgical services.
MAIN FUNCTION:
• Cover the inpatient surgical service including general surgical patients as well as patients on the orthopedic, neurosurgery, bariatric, plastic surgery, urology, thoracic & colorectal services.
• Monitor and manage patients admitted to surgical services 24 hours a day, seven days a week on a rotating basis working 12 or 24 hour shifts.
• Provide first assist in the operating room for an exciting variety of surgical procedures.
• Independently perform procedures including chest tube and central line placements as well as wound-vac applications at the direction of the supervising physician.
• Provide surgical consults as needed in the emergency room.EDUCATION: Applicants must have current NCCPA certification, active CT license, CT Controlled Substance and DEA registration.
EXPERIENCE: Surgical experience or completion of a surgical training program is strongly preferred.
