Physician Assistant - Primary Care assesses, plans, and provides patient care under the supervision of a physician. Examines patient, performs comprehensive physical examinations, and compiles patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examination. Being a Physician Assistant - Primary Care orders and interprets appropriate laboratory and radiographic tests. Administers therapeutic procedures as directed. Additionally, Physician Assistant - Primary Care scope of practice is limited to family medicine and primary care. Requires a master's degree in Health Sciences for Physician Assistants or related. Requires completion of the PANCE exam administered by National Commission of the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Requires Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C). Typically reports to a Physician. Physician Assistant - Primary Care's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. o Performs initial response-screening following protocols under the direction of the supervising physician.
o Cleans, prepares, and maintains examinations rooms and treatment areas.
o Prepares patients for examinations, procedures, and treatments.
o Assists with examinations, procedures, and treatments.
o Prepares specimens for outside lab testing, as ordered by the physician.
o May provide specialized care in iatrogenic injuries and podiatric disease and disorders.
o Checks sample medications for overstocking and date of expiration. Labels samples according to protocol before they are dispensed to patients. Logs in, and disposes of, sample medications according to policy.
o Manually cleans dirty instruments and packages instruments for sterilization.
o Schedules patients’ inpatient/outpatient admissions and procedures.
o May be required to travel as needed to fulfill staffing needs.
Qualificationso Current, valid CPR certification (American Heart Association BLS).
o Must be currently certified and maintain certification by one of the following:
o American Association of Medical Assistants (“AAMA”) for Certified Medical Assistants
o American Medical Certification Association (“AMCA”) for Clinical Medical Assistant Certification
o American Medical Technologists (“AMT”) for Registered Medical Assistant
o National Association for Health Professionals (“NAHP”) for Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant
o National Center for Competency Testing (“NCCT”) for National Certified Medical Assistant
o National Certification Medical Association (“NCMA”) for Registered Clinical Medical Assistant Specialist
o National Health Career Association (“NHA”) for Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA)
o One year of practical medical assisting experience
o Graduate of medical assisting program
