Physician Assistant - Emergency & Trauma assesses, plans, and provides patient care to patients in an emergency and trauma unit under the supervision of a physician. Examines patient, performs comprehensive physical examinations, and compiles patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examination. Being a Physician Assistant - Emergency & Trauma orders and interprets appropriate laboratory and radiographic tests. Participates in daily patient rounds, writes progress notes, conducts patient education, writes prescriptions, and prepares discharge summaries. Additionally, Physician Assistant - Emergency & Trauma requires a master's degree in Health Sciences for Physician Assistants or related. Requires completion of the PANCE exam administered by National Commission of the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Requires Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C). MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. Completion of a Physician Assistant bachelor's or master's degree program from an accredited college or university.
2. Completion of a Physician Assistant national certification program.
3. Current West Virginia Physician Assistant License required.
4. Exhibits evidence of comprehensive assessment skills, expert clinical skills, and problem-solving abilities, and commit to a multi-disciplinary team approach to patient care.
5. Must hold a valid controlled substance registration with both the WV Board of Pharmacy and the DEA and must have past surgical and/or critical care experience of at least 1 year in a hospital-based setting. The controlled substance registration must be current when submitting for a DEA license.
EXPERIENCE:
1. One or more years Physician Assistant experience required. Experience must include past surgical and/or critical care experience of at least 1 year in a hospital-based setting.

1. Performs physical examinations, compiles medical data, and records medical history and implements a treatment plan for new and established patients

3. Coordinates logistics with OR Rounds on inpatient trauma patients.
4. Orders appropriate diagnostic studies when indicated.
5. Instructs patients and families regarding treatment plans and medications.
6. Consults with physician when warranted to assess patient condition and treatment.
7. Ensures that medical charts and administrative paperwork are completed in a timely manner
8. Provides monitoring and continuity of care upon discharge.
9. Provides follow-up care to patients according to practice guidelines
10. Supports the patient and family by explaining the procedure experience with specific instructions to the patient and family regarding their responsibilities in the outpatient process.
11. Performs within guidelines of specific privileges approved by the governing body and delegated by the collaborating physician.
