Positions Summary for Physical Therapist Assistant PTA:
Under clinical supervision of physical therapist, provides direct clinical physical therapy services to support resident acquisition and enhancement of functional performance skills needed for daily life activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities of Physical Therapist Assistant PTA:
Administers therapy under supervision of a Physical Therapist and completes all documentation related to resident care. All documentation must be co-signed by Physical Therapist.
Prepares, maintains and cleans treatment areas, including preparing equipment and resident for physical therapy.
Orients resident to procedures involved and reassures resident before and during treatment. Responsible for resident’s safety while in physical therapy.
Performs routine office duties such as answering the telephone, receiving residents and filing records, reports, case histories and statistical studies, etc.
Observes, records, and reports to Physical Therapist conditions, reactions and responses related to assigned duties.
Makes recommendations to Physical Therapist about how methods and procedures can be improved.
Transports resident to and from therapy room or performs physical therapy in resident’s room.
Demonstrates and instructs residents and nursing personnel on the use of medical appliances, exercises, positioning, transferring and any other appropriate methods.
With input of Physical Therapist, prepares residents discharge plans in coordination with other team members, including the timely ordering of all equipment and or assistive devices required.
Performs all tasks and duties in an efficient and safe manner.
Performs other related duties as assigned or as necessary. Remains flexible and adaptable in work schedules and work assignments as defined by departmental and facility needs.
