    Empire State University seeks a full-time, experienced, and creative photographer (State Title: Staff Assistant) at our Saratoga Springs, NY location. The photographer will report to the chief communications officer and will work closely with the university's communication and marketing teams, conceptualizing, creating, and editing aesthetically-pleasing and technically-precise photographs across a range of styles, including news, events, and portraiture. The ideal candidate will be motivated and able to quickly adapt to different types of assignments to create compelling content and support efforts to attract a diverse array of students, motivate alumni and donors, and attract exceptional faculty and staff. The position also serves as a liaison and backup to the university's social media manager and content creator/videographer.â â

    Specific Duties:

    • Ensure that Empire State University has a large, high-quality photo library that reflects the university's mission, vision, values, and brand identity.
    • Cover news stories and events under deadline, sometimes with little notice; serve as an expert portraitist and candid photographer.
    • Capture and edit high-quality digital images, as requested, to meet the university's needs for communications, social media, media, marketing, and the website.
    • Use specialized lighting and other enhancements to create images for a wide range of uses.
    • Work with the communications and marketing staff, as well as offices and schools across the university, to bring initiatives from conception to completion.
    • Continually update university stock photography of campus locations, buildings, faculty, staff, students, and events, including four statewide commencement ceremonies each year: Albany (2), Manhattan (1), Rochester (1).
    • Manage, contribute to, and curate the central digital asset management system (Media Valet), including acquisition and maintenance of legally approved releases for photography.
    • In collaboration with marketing staff, develop a recognizable university photo style to become an element in the university's visual identity.
    • Budget time and office resources to ensure photographic work is completed efficiently and in a way that reflects university priorities. Respond to requests from other campus units.
    • Coordinate the recruitment and oversight of freelance photographers, as needed.
    • Plan and schedule photographic facilities and services.
    • Assist the university's content creator/videographer with video production, as needed, such as scheduling, lighting, and location scouting.
    • Stay current with industry standards for creating compelling and differentiating photography, including interior lighting, color correction, and photo enhancements.
    • Manage and carefully maintain photographic equipment and accessories.

    Job Requirements:


    Required Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in photography, arts and media, communications, or a related fieldâ
    • Minimum two years' experience as a professional photographer
    • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, including Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop
    • Portfolio of photography workâ spanning a range of styles
    • Excellent communication skills and attention to detailâ
    • Ability to work as a team player in a fast-paced environmentâ
    • Ability to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends

    Rank/Salary:
    SL2, $52,000-$56,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
