Position Title: University Photographer
Department: 7010|Communications & Marketing
Responsibilities:
The University Photographer is responsible for the execution of photography for the Office of Communications and Marketing (OCM). This person is responsible for archiving and digital asset management.
In addition, this person captures still and moving images that reflect the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s activities, identity and scope as a significant research university through creative and highly skilled photography. Photography is to be used to promote the University via official UL Lafayette websites, social media, and other appropriate means.
The successful candidate will:
· serve as a strategic partner with OCM and University staff on the creation, distribution, and archiving of multimedia communications;
· work with a team of photographers to meet the multimedia marketing needs of the University under the guidance of the creative director;
· execute general and special photographic assignments requiring professionalism and technical expertise using digital cameras, including candid coverage of campus activities and special events, as well as studio photography;
· provide high-quality digital photographic services;
· perform necessary photo editing and correction for still images;
· help establish and maintain an extensive, searchable library of quality photographic images using digital asset management;
· ensure the operational condition of departmental equipment through preventive maintenance and obtaining repairs when necessary;
· assist in the implementation of broad-based branding and marketing efforts;
· independently, without prompting, photograph campus, students and campus life on an ongoing basis in a creative manner.
The university photographer may be directed to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree
· Three years of full-time professional photography experience that includes photojournalism, studio work, and environmental portraits
Preferred Qualifications:
-Proficiency in Photoshop photo editing software, including Lightroom
- Extensive knowledge of, and experience in, lighting;
- The willingness to learn how to use a professional video camera and video editing software to produce videos;
-The ability to work under deadline pressure;
-The ability to collaborate with others, especially the University’s social media strategist and senior director of web communications
- Knowledge of digital printing and outputting images for print and websites.
-Previous experience in higher education
The successful candidate must have the ability to carry photographic equipment weighing up to 50 pounds without lifting devices for distances up to 100 yards. Good visual acuity (20/20 vision or 20/20 corrected vision) is required for the operation of camera equipment.
The successful candidate must be attentive to details and deadlines, have superior time management and follow-through skills, and be able to maintain a flexible work schedule when on deadline. Must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends. Ability to travel as needed. Need to be available in cases of emergency.
