Phlebotomist draws and collects blood samples from patients, verifies records and prepares specimens for laboratory analysis. May prick finger to draw blood. Being a Phlebotomist may conduct interviews, take vital signs, and draw and test blood samples to screen donors at blood bank. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Additionally, Phlebotomist requires Certification by a nationally recognized body. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Phlebotomist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Job Summary
Performs a variety of general and specific clinical laboratory duties including but not limited to the areas of Phlebotomy, Central Specimen Processing/Shipping. Collects routine laboratory specimens by standard venipuncture and skin puncture. Processes specimens and requisitions to appropriate lab section. Distributes and files laboratory reports.
