Responsibilities

• Performs venipuncture on infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients according to established protocols and procedures so as to provide the best possible specimen for analysis.
• Uses two forms of positive identification of all patients prior to obtaining any specimen and labels that specimen correctly in order to maintain quality of patient care.
• Maintains a working knowledge of laboratory and hospital computer routines necessary to process infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients to maintain productivity throughout the laboratory.
• Processes specimens, i.e., centrifugation, aliquoting, delivery, according to established procedures in order to maintain integrity of patient samples.
• Participates in laboratory quality assurance monitors as appropriate in order to maintain high standards of patient quality care.
• Maintains adequate levels of departmental supplies by stocking and notifying supervisor of shortages in order to maximize department productivity and minimize cost.
