Pharmacy Technician

You will provide much-needed care to those in skilled nursing facilities, and assisted living communities, as VPS long-term care pharmacy services provider, you have the chance to provide compassionate, supportive care to patients throughout the continuum of care. We are looking for a dependable Pharmacy Technician that will process, fill prescriptions and provide excellent support to our nursing staff. You will also undertake other tasks under the direction of a pharmacist to provide excellent customer service. As a pharmacy technician you must be detail-oriented and reliable since this job comes with high responsibilities.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Demonstrates the ability to competently work in general and specialized areas of pharmacy practice.
• Assist in filling, processing, and dispensing of all medications to the facilities, through a variety of processes such as Med-cart refill, stat box, emergency boxes maintanence, and others under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
• Policies and procedures are followed consistently.
• Assisting the department in maintenance all drug storage areas.
• Receiving and storing drug products.
• Sort, stock, label medication and monitor inventory.
• Ensures adequate inventory are available for continuous patient care.
• Triages and escalates any questions or issues outside the pharmacy technician scope of practice to the pharmacist or supervisor as needed.
• Follow HIPAA guidelines while processing patient information.
• Ensures quality assurance is maintained according to departmental and legal requirements.
• Operates pharmacy equipment appropriately.
• Sanitize surfaces and equipment before any preparation and when pharmacy opens.
• Process prescriptions electronically and ensure all information is complete and accurate.
• Accurately and efficiently prepare prescription orders.
• Resolve issues when they arise (e.g. rejected insurance claims).
• Undertake administrative tasks (e.g. record-keeping) as assigned.
• Comply with all security measures and quality standards.
• Providing quality customer service to patients and other healthcare providers.
• Record keeping and appropriate handling of controlled substances.
• Prepare and package medications requiring special handling in accordance with safety measures, to include preparing compounds, and accurately re-packaging and labeling medications
• Check for expiration dates on medications on a regular basis and remove expired medications from Inventory.
• In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
• Prolonged periods of standing and bending
• Must be able to lift/push/pull 15-25 pounds at times

• Attention to detail and ability to write legibly

OTHER SPECIFICATIONS:

• Must be a Licensed Pharmacy Technician with the State of Virginia
