Pharmacy Technician Supervisor oversees the work of a team of Pharmacy Technicians that assist Pharmacists with the dispensing of medical prescriptions. Monitors daily activities and manages work schedules to ensure that quality, production and customer service standards are maintained. Being a Pharmacy Technician Supervisor may hire, train, and evaluate new employees. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Additionally, Pharmacy Technician Supervisor typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Typically requires Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT). The Pharmacy Technician Supervisor supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. Thorough knowledge of department processes. Job Summary
The pharmacy technician serves an integral role by assisting the pharmacist in various operations within the pharmacy; including, but not limited to: processing prescriptions, packaging medication, ordering and receiving drug inventory, and corresponding with patients and providers. A successful pharmacy technician will have strong communication skills and be able to perform detailed work.
Job Duties
Accurately processing prescriptions (entry, adjudication, filling, point-of-sale)
Packaging medication in vials, compliance packaging or “bubble packing” and single-med cold seal cards
Working directly with providers’ offices and/or facilities as part of an interdisciplinary team-based approach to medication management
Inventory management, drug ordering and receiving per state and federal regulations
Clerical and record keeping practices and procedures Operate computer software (Rx30, Omnicell, Dispill, etc)
Aids in continuity of care by coordinating prescription refills between providers’ offices and subsequent delivery of medication to the patient
Advocates for patient health by navigating common barriers such as prior authorizations, patient assistant programs, sync fills, or delivery
This position has access to and knowledge of extremely sensitive, private, and materials and requires the highest standard of confidentiality
Minimum Employment Requirement(s)
Possess and maintain a valid professional license/certification/registration issued by the State Board of Pharmacy
High school diploma or GED
Preferred Qualification(s)
Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification
