Pharmacy Director directs, establishes, and plans the overall policies and goals for a hospital or healthcare facility's pharmacy services. Maintains contact with other department heads, medical staff, and nursing staff to determine needs, resolve problems, improve processes, and promote effective drug therapy. Being a Pharmacy Director requires a bachelor's degree in pharmacy. Typically requires Registered Pharmacist (RPh). Additionally, Pharmacy Director typically reports to a top management. The Pharmacy Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure.   • The following job description identifies the qualifications and standards for Pharmacy Technicians. Pharmacy Technicians will meet the following requirements and competencies listed below. This position description provides a general overview of the type of work performed by employees within this classification. It is not designed to contain or be interpreted as a comprehensive list of all duties, responsibilities, and qualifications that may be required of the employee assigned to the position. Depending on the facility, job duties may vary. Pharmacy Technicians report directly to the Pharmacist in Charge.

    I. Job Summary: The pharmacy technician serves an integral role by assisting the pharmacist in various operations within the pharmacy including, but not limited to:

    ❖ Processes and fills prescriptions for oral, rectal topical, and injectable medications.

    ❖ Prepares, packages, and delivers prescriptions.

    ❖ Orders and receives drug inventory and maintains adequate inventory of stock and supplies.

    ❖ Corresponds with patients and providers. A successful pharmacy technician will have strong communication skills and be able to perform detailed work. The pharmacy technician will work in multiple areas of the pharmacy as directed to maintain competency and broaden skills for all areas of the job scope.

    II. Duties and Responsibilities:

    1. Demonstrates Competencies in the Following Areas:

    ❖ Files and retrieves pharmacy records as required.

    ❖ Obtains and documents accurate and complete patient medication histories.

    , counting, packaging, delivering, and labeling per established guidelines.

    ❖ Packages medications in vials, compliance packaging, and single-med cold seal cards.

    ❖ Triages telephone calls in the pharmacy.

    ❖ Maintains assigned work areas and equipment in clean and orderly condition.

    ❖ Processes patient medication charges and credits as needed.

    ❖ Works directly with providers’ offices and/or facilities as part of an interdisciplinary team based approach to medication management.

    ❖ Inventory management; drug ordering and receiving per state and federal regulations.

    ❖ Conducts clerical and record keeping practices and procedures.

    ❖ Operates computer software (Rx30, Omnicell, Dispill, etc.) proficiently.

    ❖ Aids in continuity of care by coordinating prescription refills between providers’ offices and subsequent delivery of medication to the patient.

    ❖ Advocates for patient health by navigating common barriers such as prior authorizations, patient assistance programs, sync fills, or delivery.

    ❖ Performs other pharmacy related duties as assigned.

    ❖ Deliver medications to clients on assigned routes and create a delivery route utilizing basic internet applications and GPS functions per designated route sequence that ensures timely delivery of medications.

    ❖ Complete deliveries with accuracy, care, and timeliness.

    ❖ Transport and deliver medication to patients in a safe manner to prevent damage, spoilage, and loss.

    ❖ Be able and willing to drive under winter and storm conditions.

    ❖ Acquire confirmation signature and any necessary identification needed for the medications to be delivered.

    ❖ Collect payments from clients at time of delivery, where applicable.

    ❖ Print and maintain any necessary documentation needed for deliveries including manifests, signature logs, and mileage logs.

    2. Professional Responsibilities:

    ❖ Completes annual continuing education requirements.

    ❖ Maintains regulatory requirements.

    ❖ Completes outdates and returns in a timely fashion.

    ❖ Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.

    ❖ Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.

    ❖ Complies with all organizational policies.

    3. Regulatory Requirements:

    ❖ Possess and maintain a valid professional license/certification/registration issued by the State Board of Pharmacy.

    ❖ Abide by and uphold the privacy rule standards of HIPAA.

    4. Minimum Employment Requirements:

    ❖ High school diploma or GED.

    5. Preferred Qualifications:

    ❖ Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification.

    ❖ One (1) year related pharmacy experience.

    6. Language Skills:

    ❖ Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.

    7. Skills:

    ❖ Moderate computer knowledge.

    8. Physical Demands:

    ❖ Ability to lift twenty (20) pounds, moving, lifting, or carrying boxes.

    ❖ Ability to stand for extended periods.

    ❖ Fine Motor Skills.

    ❖ Visual Acuity.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach forward with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
