The UMMC Clinic and Discharge Pharmacy Internship Program offers outstanding experiences to expose students to a variety of areas within pharmacy, while developing a strong skillset of clinical knowledge and understanding of pharmacy operations.
Interns will be given the opportunity to staff in the University Clinic Pharmacy at the Clinic and Surgery Center, and the Discharge Pharmacy at the University East Bank Hospital. During summer hours, interns will be given the opportunity to rotate through additional outstanding areas including the Delaware Street infectious disease pharmacy, Specialty Transplant Pharmacy and more.
This position is based in a retail setting with a strong clinical ethic, helping interns to develop effective interpersonal skills as they coordinate patient care with residents, physicians and other members of the University healthcare team. Primary intern responsibilities include order entry, dispensing, and patient counseling. Interns will become familiar with a wide array of medications that University patients use to treat sophisticated disease states through patient counseling and presentations, of which interns will have the opportunity to both attend and lead.
Interns will be encouraged to work 32-40 hours per week during the summer/winter break (except for IPPEs) and at least 3 shifts per pay period during the academic calendar year. Shifts during the school year will typically include one or two 8 hour weekend shifts and one or two 4-6 hour weekday shifts per a 2-week pay period. Additional hours may be available depending on the intern’s availability.
