Pharmacist Manager manages a group of pharmacists who, under the direction of a physician, compound and dispense prescribed drugs in a retail or healthcare facility environment. Oversees daily pharmacy operations. Being a Pharmacist Manager monitors and audits drug inventory, ensures compliance with all regulatory guidelines and reporting. Requires a bachelor's degree in pharmacy or a Pharm.D. Additionally, Pharmacist Manager requires Registered Pharmacist (RPh). Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Pharmacist Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Pharmacist Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. This temporary position is onsite at the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH), in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and involves providing operational support to the Louisiana Medicaid Pharmacy Program team. This position may be filled as a full-time or part-time position. As directed, support the Louisiana Medicaid Pharmacy team in its operations, to include such activities as:
- Conduct background research, compile information, determine policy fiscal impacts, and draft reports regarding pharmacy-related clinical questions and policy issues;
- Draft management and utilization reports;
- Support the Louisiana Medicaid Pharmacy team in the management of physician-administered drugs, to include development of clinical criteria and reimbursement guidelines;
- Draft pharmacy-related provider correspondence (notices);
- Review pharmacy-related reports and documents for clinical / policy content, ease of understanding, formatting, and writing mechanics (grammar, punctuation, and spelling) and make suggestions for revision(s);
- Review managed care organization (MCO) medication-related policies and identify areas of concern when compared to existing Louisiana Medicaid policies;
- Support Pharmacy Help Desk personnel by providing clinical / policy support and by participating in the phone (call) tree;
- Work on special applications / projects as directed by LDH;
- Participate in disaster relief activities at the request of the Louisiana Medicaid team, LDH or ULM; and
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Applicant must be a graduate of an ACPE accredited School / College of Pharmacy with a B.S. degree or higher;
- A Pharm.D. degree is preferred;
- Position requires a current Louisiana Pharmacist License or eligibility for licensure in Louisiana;
- Pharmacy License must be in good standing;
- Extensive outpatient (retail) pharmacy experience is strongly preferred;
- Medicaid-related experience is preferred;
- Working knowledge of TPL (third party liability) and Medicare drug coverage is preferred;
- Pharmacy-related 340-B experience is a plus;
- Position requires a moderate amount of computer experience, good interpersonal communication skills, and exceptional organization skills with attention to detail; and
