Pharmacist compounds and dispenses prescribed drugs per physician's instructions in a hospital or healthcare facility setting. Consults with medical staff about potential drug interactions, patient medical history, and the use of particular medications. Being a Pharmacist responds to questions from patients about medications and dosage instructions. Ensures that all required pharmacy data is recorded and maintained and complies with all regulatory, security and hospital procedures. Additionally, Pharmacist may supervise pharmacy technicians. Requires a doctorate degree in pharmacy (Pharm.D.). Typically reports to a manager. Requires Registered Pharmacist (RPh). Pharmacist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. 2. Contributes to the quality and effective operation of the department:
- Supervises and directs pharmacy support personnel. Verifies the daily activities of pharmacy technicians. Participates in the performance appraisal of pharmacy support personnel.
- Fosters a team environment by providing orientation and training to new team member
- Coordinates and completes all assigned medication storage area inspections in a timely manner.
- Identifies and replaces outdated and unusable drugs.
- Answers the telephone promptly identifying self and department. Directs calls to appropriate personnel.
- Adheres to infection control protocols.
- Develop pharmaceutical knowledge of hospital staff and students.
- Keeps pharmacy area neat, clean and well-organized.
3. Maintains competency required for current job title/position:
- Maintains current pharmacist license. Ensures applicable CE records are maintained.
- Attends pharmacy staff meetings
- Attends orientation, education, and training programs.
- Completes all competency/skills assessment requirements
Education: Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy required.
License: Registered Pharmacist (RX) required.
