Pharmacist compounds and dispenses prescribed drugs per physician's instructions in a hospital or healthcare facility setting. Consults with medical staff about potential drug interactions, patient medical history, and the use of particular medications. Being a Pharmacist responds to questions from patients about medications and dosage instructions. Ensures that all required pharmacy data is recorded and maintained and complies with all regulatory, security and hospital procedures. Additionally, Pharmacist may supervise pharmacy technicians. Requires a doctorate degree in pharmacy (Pharm.D.). Typically reports to a manager. Requires Registered Pharmacist (RPh). Pharmacist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. BASIC FUNCTION: Plan, organize, direct and provide pharmacy services and the controlled dispensing of medications in accordance with established hospital policies to provide optimal pharmaceutical care for all patients and departments of the facility.

EXPOSURE TO HAZARDS: Considerable walking about the building. Subject to minor injuries, back injury, infections, communicable diseases, and exposure to disagreeable sights, odors, and chemicals. This position is responsible for wearing PPE during certain job functions to reduce job hazards. PPE can include: gloves, gown/coat, shoe covers, head/face, eye and ear protection. Each job function requires a different level of PPE; individuals receive initial and annual training to identify the appropriate level of PPE required. Subject to exposure to chemotherapeutic agents. According to OSHA standards, this position is considered to be low risk with little or no chance of exposure to blood borne pathogens (Class III).

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctorate degree in Pharmacy from an accredited school of pharmacy.
Experience: Previous hospital pharmacy experience or residency preferred.
Certificates, License, Registrations:
Licensed by the State of Kansas as a registered pharmacist.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Generalist broad-based pharmacy knowledge. Ability to multi-task. Ability to obtain drug information quickly and to provide education to staff and patients. Attention to detail. Supervision of technician staff required. Advanced computer technology skills including Word and Excel required. Ability to troubleshoot computer and automated dispensing machine problems. Interpersonal skills a necessity with physicians, nurses, patients and other employees of the hospital. Maintain compliance with HIPAA and patient confidentiality.
