Pharmacist compounds and dispenses prescribed drugs per physician's instructions in a hospital or healthcare facility setting. Consults with medical staff about potential drug interactions, patient medical history, and the use of particular medications. Being a Pharmacist responds to questions from patients about medications and dosage instructions. Ensures that all required pharmacy data is recorded and maintained and complies with all regulatory, security and hospital procedures. Additionally, Pharmacist may supervise pharmacy technicians. Requires a doctorate degree in pharmacy (Pharm.D.). Typically reports to a manager. Requires Registered Pharmacist (RPh). Pharmacist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified.     Performs all functions of pharmaceutical care required of a staff pharmacist. Performs and supervises computer data entry related to patient profile. Monitors all medication dispensing for accuracy. supervises filling of all prescriptions and provides appropriate patient counseling. Collects and analyzes data for process improvement projects. Maintains competencies in federal and state regulations related to pharmacy practice. Responsible for one long-term project involving all the retail pharmacies sharing information, updates, processes with all retail pharmacy partners. Performs other duties as assigned.

    Responsibilities

    • Maintains professionalism and conducts self as a role model, serving as a resource for the other retail pharmacy partners.
    • Staff primarily as a retail pharmacist but may be required to work in other functions of the retail pharmacy operations in support of the department.
    • Is an expert retail pharmacist who relies on skills of comprehensive knowledge and experience.
    • Takes ownership of one long-term retail pharmacy project assuring that the information, data is carried through to all the retail pharmacies.
    • Maintains practice by ongoing professional literature review, continuing education and self-evaluation.

    Education and Experience

    Fifth year college or university program certificate; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Certification/Licensure

    Graduate of an accredited Pharmacy programWisconsin license required
