    WSP is currently initiating a search for a full-time Geologist for our St. Louis, Missouri office.  The candidate will be involved in projects with our Earth & Environment Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges. 

    As an Associate Consultant, Geologist, selected applicants will take part in providing local geological and/or environmental engineering assistance for the design, permitting, development, and construction of infrastructure projects and systems in the public and private sector as well as investigation, due diligence, remediation, and impact assessment.  Tasks may include assistance with site assessment/investigation, research, analysis, concept development design, planning, and construction of foundations, tunnels, dams, rock and soil slopes, canals, levees, pipelines, underground storage, and mines.  Applicants will generate accurate and concise documentation regarding assigned aspects of the projects and ensure that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.

    Your Impact

    • Under general supervision, collect, compile, and analyze data from the physical work site, soil/water/waste/rock samples, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, subsurface information, maps, geotechnical data, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction.   
    • Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements, statistical analysis of rock and soil environmental data, and reporting.
    • Assist with performing professional geology and geological engineering work and assist with conducting research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, including subsurface investigations, soil foundation engineering, settlement analysis, soil erosion, geological hazards, and slope stability to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, construction, or operating permits for commercial, industrial, building, environmental, infrastructure, mining, and transportation projects.
    • Assist with oversight of drilling subcontractors during sample collection, well installations, and well abandonment.
    • Prepare data and visualizations such as mineral charts, soil analyses, groundwater modeling, maps geologic cross-sections, and other illustrations.
    • Assist with verifying the characteristics of a site, providing basic technical assistance on various environmental, design, and construction issues involving rock and soil mechanics, and investigating subsurface and geological conditions to design and build foundations, pipelines, excavations, and earth structures.
    • Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, accurate reports, sketches, calculations, groundwater modeling, maps, geologic cross-sections, and other illustrations for the interpretation or presentation of data, findings, or analyses.
    • Contribute to the preparation of technical reports and presentations that explain research and findings to improve, prevent, control, restore, or address design and/or construction issues or problems. 
    • Assist in the analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of data obtained during field investigations, offering input with developing action plans for low to mid-level risk mitigation activities.
    • Assist in the preparation and implementation of site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).  
    • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
    • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

    Who You Are

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, or closely related discipline.
    • 1 to 3 years of relevant post education experience in engineering discipline.
    • Analytical skills, and familiarity with geological research techniques and protocol.
    • Basic technical knowledge of geology, including: subsurface investigation and testing, geologic mapping, hydrogeology, groundwater well installation and testing, and the application to permitting and project work-related issues. 
    • Familiarity with the disciplines of rock and soil mechanics to investigate subsurface and geologic conditions to design and build foundations, pipelines, excavations, and earth structures.
    • Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
    • Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.
    • Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently under general supervision, and comply with company policies.
    • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
    • Familiarity with discipline-specific design software (i.e., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, gINT, OpenGround Cloud, RocScience, GeoSlope, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS. Or similar programs/platforms).
    • Ability to assertively direct others in the field such as subcontracted drillers, excavation contractors, utility locators, and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
    • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
    • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
    • Travel and weekend work will be required depending on project-specific requirements.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Master’s Degree.
    • Prior internship related to the degree of study.
    • A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organization.
    • 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120).
    • MSHA Part 48A Underground Coal and Metal/Non-metal Training (30 CFR 48)
    • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training.
