    Position Summary:
    The Project Geologist position is a full-time, non-faculty exempt appointment stationed at the University of Idaho's Moscow campus. A Project Geologist reports to the Director, coordinates work plans with Research Geologists, and assists and facilitates the completion of geologic mapping and geochemical field research at the Idaho Geological Survey (IGS) with emphasis on critical minerals. Position requires collection, analysis, and interpretation of geological and geochemical data and the construction, publication, and presentation of the research and conclusions to a diverse audience. Project is federally funded and focused on the Sheep Creek-Mineral Hill REE-Nb mineral belt northwest of Salmon, Idaho. Current funding is for 2.2 years. The Project Geologist assumes co-author or lead author position on geologic maps, technical reports, and other geology-related publications at the IGS. Position involves the supervision of student support staff. The position requires extended field work in rugged terrain and interaction with industry, state and federal agencies, academic institutions, professional colleagues, and the general public.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Masters degree in Geology or Earth Sciences.
    Experience:
    • In development and construction of geologic maps and cross sections.
    • Managing and/or curating datasets, preferably geochemical data.
    • Using computer software and applications for vector graphics and illustrations and applications for GIS.
    • Using word processing and spreadsheet software
    • Conducting independent research.
    • Writing research reports and articles.
    • Field experience such as orienteering, data collection, rock identification, geologic mapping, and field safety.



    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Relevant professional work experience in addition to any teaching or research assistantship in academia.
    • Using geochemistry research methods, including data collection and analysis techniques to analyze and synthesize data for reports.
    • Experience with igneous rocks, metasedimentary rocks, mineral deposits, and structural geology.
    • Work experience in one or more of the following: 1) geologic mapping; 2) mineral exploration or mining; 3) geochemical applications to geology.
    • Working as part of an interdisciplinary team.
    • Familiarity with the geology of Idaho.



    Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
    • Ability to hike over rough terrain with as much as 5,000 ft of relief and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds in variable weather conditions




    Required Licensures, Certifications or other
    • Ability to conduct field work alone involving extensive traveling for field assignments in rough terrain and camping in inclement weather.
    • Must possess a valid drivers license and be able to meet policy requirements for driving university-owned vehicles
