Pediatric Psychiatrist evaluates, diagnoses, and treats mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders affecting children, adolescents, and their families. Diagnoses disorders, including nature and extent, determines the appropriate course of treatment, and discusses these treatment plans with the child or adolescent and the responsible adults. Being a Pediatric Psychiatrist prescribes medication when necessary. May need to act as an advocate for the best interests of the patient. Additionally, Pediatric Psychiatrist requires a MD degree from an accredited school. Requires a valid state license to practice. May report to a medical director.     The Behavioral Health Psychiatrist will promote Catholic Charities' mission and values and build effective relationships that inspire others to action inside and outside the organization. This role requires someone adaptable, self-reflective, and an empathetic team player with strong interpersonal skills and a desire to support the needs of children, families, adults, older adults, and probation youth. The Behavioral Health Psychiatrist will bring an understanding of cultural competency, conflict resolution, self-initiative, and a genuine interest in professional and personal growth. The Behavioral Health Division serves clients under multiple programs:

    CalWORKS

    Older Adult Outpatient Program

    Supportive Therapeutic Options Program (STOP)

    Prevention and Early Intervention-school based (PEI)

    Responsive Intervention Services and Intervention (RISE)

    POSITION SUMMARY: 

    In a team environment, the Psychiatrist provides direct psychiatric and medication support services to adolescent, adult, and older adult clients. Must be available for on-call coverage for medication support and/or crisis situations via phone. Up to 12 hours of service per week with a schedule to be determined based on the candidate's preferences and our agency’s needs.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Provides direct psychiatric initial assessments and medication support services
    • Works in a team environment, consults with staff on client behavior and performance, and provides staff training as required.
    • Reviews behavioral/medical records for compliance with quality and contract requirements.
    • Prepares correspondence as appropriate.
    • Consults with other staff and external providers, including psychiatrists, physicians, psychotherapists and other authorized professionals, family members or caregivers.
    • Provides on-call support to clinicians and case managers.
    • Enters progress notes, assessments and other items into CCSCC Electronic Records (AWARDS).
    • Use all applicable laws and guidelines as required by SCC MHD, Title 22, and MediCare documentation requirements.
    • Comply with SCC Medications Guidelines including laboratory requirements. 

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    • Licensed physician with a current CA license.
    • A current DEA certificate.
    • Certification to provide psychiatric services to children required.
    • Board certified preferred.
    • Board eligible required with ability to complete certification within the year.
    • Psychiatric experience and/or experience with homeless, veterans, refugees and/or other high needs clients.
    • Experience with dual diagnosis and Addiction Medicine.
    • Psycho-pharmacological experience including long acting injectable medications.

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

    • Cultural competency skills.
    • Active malpractice insurance.
    • Bilingual skills highly preferred (Spanish, Mandarin, or Vietnamese)

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

    • Ability to work at a desk for extended periods of time.
    • Ability to use a computer workstation.
    • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. 

    OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Criminal background check via livescan fingerprint.
    • Must have TB test performed and submit results.
    • Provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination and booster status.
    • Automobile, valid driver’s license and auto insurance per agency policy; or have access to reliable transportation.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    • Work will be mostly done in a hybrid environment.
    • Willing to go to clients or community agencies as necessary through own vehicle or public transport.
    • Some travel within Santa Clara County for client services.

    HOURS AND OTHER CONDITIONS:

    • Standard office hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
    • This is a part-time, non-exempt position. Rare evenings and weekends may be needed for workshops, meetings and off hours support as necessary.

    MANDATED REPORTER STATUS 

    This position requires you to work with adults and children, and your profession qualifies you as "mandated reporters" of Elder abuse or neglect. Child abuse or neglect, which is found in California Penal Code Section 11164-11174.3 and Welfare and Institution Code 15610-15610.70. In addition, you are required to report suspected cases of child abuse and neglect and Elder abuse and neglect.
