Pediatric Psychiatrist evaluates, diagnoses, and treats mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders affecting children, adolescents, and their families. Diagnoses disorders, including nature and extent, determines the appropriate course of treatment, and discusses these treatment plans with the child or adolescent and the responsible adults. Being a Pediatric Psychiatrist prescribes medication when necessary. May need to act as an advocate for the best interests of the patient. Additionally, Pediatric Psychiatrist requires a MD degree from an accredited school. Requires a valid state license to practice. May report to a medical director. Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Outpatient Provider Duties: Provide psychiatry services at the WNY VAMC’s Outpatient Clinic. Shifts will be Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. except for Federal Holidays. Physician will provide treatment/evaluation/consultations to approximately 10-12 scheduled patients per day in the regular outpatient clinic; 60 minutes for new patients and 30 minutes for follow up patients.
Inpatient Provider Duties: Psychiatrist will provide diagnostic/evaluation to approximately 7-8 patients in an acute psychiatric inpatient setting. Certification in ECT is preferred for the delivery of ECT as needed.
Physicians will be responsible for completing all documentation and closes all patient encounters in a timely manner, by the end of shift, utilizing the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS)
Physicians will be responsible for diagnosing, treating and managing psychiatric patients according to current standards of care. Services to be performed include, but are not limited to: performing assessments/examinations on initial encounters with unscheduled, emergent, urgent, and new patients; coordinating patient treatment plans; ordering appropriate diagnostic tests; recommending patients for hospital admission; and documenting in the computerized medical record.
Standards of Care: Physician(s) services shall cover the range of psychiatric services as would be provided in a state-of-the-art health care treatment facility and the standard of care shall be of a quality, meeting or exceeding currently recognized national standards as established by:
