Pediatric Psychiatrist evaluates, diagnoses, and treats mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders affecting children, adolescents, and their families. Being a Pediatric Psychiatrist prescribes medication when necessary. May need to act as an advocate for the best interests of the patient.     Mental health counseling for youth and adults

    School-based mental health services

    Substance abuse counseling and methadone treatment

    Family transitional and supportive housing

    Rapid rehousing and flex pool housing programs

    Case management services at several homeless and housing programs

    Bayview SAFE Navigation Center

    Position Overview:

    A Psychiatrist is a medical doctor who specializes in mental health, including substance use disorders. Psychiatrists are qualified to assess both the mental and physical aspects of psychological problems. As a psychiatrist, you will prescribe, direct, or administer psychotherapeutic treatments or medications to treat mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders. A psychiatrist will gather and maintain patient information and records, including social or medical history obtained from patients, relatives, or other professionals. This position may collaborate with our staff and nurses, as well as with other members of an individual's care team. A psychiatrist is expected to have extensive knowledge of and experience in psychopharmacology, and behavioral therapies and have experience treating patients who live with severe mental illness.?

    Responsibilities:

    • Evaluate individuals who are referred for psychiatric assessment.
    • Assess patients by conducting psychiatric evaluations, including interviews, medical histories, physical exams, observations, and psychological testing.
    • Explain the evaluation process to patients and/or primary caregivers, and consider input from patients, caregivers, and colleagues when developing treatment plans.
    • Review patients' medical history and collect additional information from family members and psychologists as needed.
    • Evaluate patients and develop treatment plans that fit their needs in accordance with best practices.
    • Analyze data and results of assessments to diagnose patients.
    • Diagnose individuals based on psychiatric evaluation, develop treatment plans, and provide supportive psychotherapy and psychopharmacology when appropriate.
    • Develop comprehensive treatment plans and prescribe medication as needed.
    • Coordinate and communicate with case managers and other members of the care team about treatment and care.
    • Follow up on a regular basis with the patient to check progress and adjust the treatment plan as needed.
    • Monitor patients to determine efficacy and potential side effects of medications.
    • Advise patients on how to cope with mental diseases and emotional breakdowns.
    • Deliver crisis intervention as needed.
    • Evaluate patients' emotional, behavioral and mental state through discussion, observation, and analysis.
    • Provide patients with emotional support and strategies to help manage their disorder.
    • Work with other clinicians and staff members to create an environment that empowers patients to pursue healthier lives.
    • Complete all necessary clinical documentation, in an accurate and timely manner, in accordance with BVHPF's policies and procedures.
    • Stay up to date in psychiatry and mental health field.
    • Research medical issues and new medical treatments to update your knowledge on mental healthcare.
    • Additional duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree (or equivalent)
    • One year of postgraduate training in an accredited hospital residency program
    • License for the practice of psychiatry in the State of California.
    • Board of Psychiatry Certification.
    • Registration for prescribing controlled substances
    • Extensive knowledge of psychotherapy and psychopharmacology
    • Excellent knowledge and familiarity with current DSM criteria
    • Familiar with crisis assessment tools and techniques
    • Strong working knowledge of general psychiatric principles and practices
    • Excellent interpersonal and time-management skills
    • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to explain medical terms and conditions to a non-medical audience.
    • Ability to work well with diverse staff and clientele including cultural, language, sexual identity, gender, and other diversity considerations.
    • Ability to deal with a changing environment with possible high-stress levels and be open to new ideas.
    • Ability to plan, organize, and conduct work with minimal supervision.
    • Ability to work successfully both independently and cooperatively.
    • Ability to speak, read, and write clearly in English.
    • Ability to successfully and efficiently complete tasks in an environment with background noise and interruptions.

    • Regular and reliable job attendance.
    • Valid California's Driver's License (if duties require).
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
    • Able to meet federal, state, and local standards following a comprehensive background screening and LiveScan Screening (if duties require).
    • Exhibit respect and understanding of others to maintain professional relationships.
    • Independent judgment in evaluation options to make sound decisions.
    • In office/open office environment with the ability to work effectively surrounded by moderate noise.
