TITLE: Payroll Supervisor FLSA: Exempt (Non-certified)
SALARY: Local 1220 Salary Schedule CLASSIFICATION: Admin
DEPARTMENT: Finance WORK YEAR: 12 month
DESCRIPTION: Under the general direction of the Chief School Business Officer, the Payroll Supervisor will be responsible for the payment of all salaries, benefits and extra-duty stipends for District employees. The Payroll Supervisor will ensure accuracy in implementing Board approved payments to employees and in making required reports to TRS, IMRF, and ISBE.
SUPERVISES: Payroll Clerks, Secretaries and Technicians as assigned
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Degree in accounting, math, education or other related field
2. Five years of experience in supervision in a public school setting
3. Proficient or better evaluation ratings for the past three years
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of:
1. Accounting and payroll practices
2. TRS and IMRF retirement system requirements
3. Effective supervision of employees.
Ability to:
1. Work effectively in a team environment with multiple stakeholders.
2. Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
3. Assess problems and generate and implement solutions
4. Use a variety of computer programs
5. Monitor accounting systems and ensure accuracy
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: (May not include all duties performed)
1. Supervise payroll functions and ensure accuracy
2. Ensure appropriate Board of Education and Financial Oversight Panel (FOP) approval of all
payments
3. Ensure that appropriate payroll records are maintained
4. Approve all payroll reporting to TRS, IMRF, and ISBE
5. Collaborate with Human Resources administrators to ensure accuracy of employment and payroll data.
6. Submit to the CFO as requested.
7. Respond to employee requests for information regarding payroll.
8. Prepare information for union negotiations as requested by the District.
9. Other related duties as assigned.
