Payroll Clerk, Sr. prepares and processes payroll and associated information. Collates and verifies data and inputs into the payroll system. Being a Payroll Clerk, Sr. updates payroll records and processes routine changes to employee records. Performs basic reconciliation and auditing processes during each pay cycle. Additionally, Payroll Clerk, Sr. responds to pay-related inquiries from staff. Researches and resolves errors or omissions. May prepare and submit reports and forms required by IRS or other regulatory bodies. Follows all processing procedures, adheres to policies, and maintains confidentiality. PURPOSE:
To ensure the accurate and timely production of employee payrolls.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Input payroll changes into payroll system as required;
Provide external support to Branches in all aspects of payroll data entry;
Co-ordinate and balance all imported and exported data from external sources;
Administer and complete all government required forms and documentation;
Provide support to HRIS users as it applies to payroll;
Interpret and adhere to collective agreements and provide support to union executive as it pertains to payroll;
Interface and audit payroll and HRIS information;
Assist in the preparation of year-end reporting with respect to T4's, Releve 1's, etc.;
Maintain a high level of compliance and adhere to all audit procedures;
Other projects and duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
High school graduation diploma, some post secondary preferred;
Courses in accounting, payroll (CPA) and human resources would be an asset;
Knowledge ofADP and PeopleSoft would be beneficial.
Experience Knowledge:
A minimum of 5 years payroll experience in a large company;
Excellent communications, customer service and organizational skills a must;
Strong computer skills are essential - Word, Excel and Outlook. Candidate should have above average typing; and data entry skills and be self motivated with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team;ADP, Ceridian and PeopleSoft experience a definite asset;
Thorough knowledge of Labour Standards and familiarity with union agreements essential.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Office environment. Minimal travel required.
