Payroll Administrator is responsible for the accurate preparation, documentation, distribution and reconciliation of payroll and the administration of the payroll system. Reviews the computation of pay and associated deductions for accuracy. Being a Payroll Administrator maintains up-to-date knowledge of city, state, provincial, local, and federal legislation affecting payroll; understands and follows applicable provisions. Prepares required tax filings and other reporting. Additionally, Payroll Administrator may coordinate payroll processing with an outside service provider. Responds to and resolves any inquiries regarding paychecks or payroll reporting. Ensures payroll issues are escalated and resolved promptly. May require an associate degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Payroll Administrator work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. SUMMARY
Compiles and maintains payroll records by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Compile biweekly payroll data from timesheets, and information provided by the parts and services directors.
Compile the monthly commission payroll from information provided by the office managers.
Compile monthly sales settle-up commission payroll. Check for missing deductions, minimum wage, and any money owed back to the company. Adjust sheets as necessary prior to processing.
Calculate vacation pay for non-hourly employees.
At the completion of each payroll, submit 401K contributions and process garnishments. Transfer pay data to the general ledger.
Update master payroll records, new hires, wage changes, tax and benefits deductions, compensation increases, etc. Transfer employees between departments or locations.
Monitor 401K for possible catch-up contributions.
Prepare periodic reports of earnings, benefit deductions, 401K deferrals, and worker’s compensation.
Process payments for insurance benefits.
Process uniform deposit refunds.
Record sales and employee service contributions, and company match for the Christmas/Longevity bonus program.
Maintains a professional appearance and neat work area.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Experience with ADP payroll. Knowledge of general ledger mapping.

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations..
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
The ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage..
REASONING ABILITY
The ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
