JOB SUMMARY:
Prepares the patient for and performs the day-to-day transports, admissions of patients, and assist in safe patient handling throughout the Health System, providing care as indicated to these patients during the transport as directed under general supervision, per established policies and procedures and within the mission and values of Penn State Health System.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):
High School Diploma or equivalency.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Maintains current competence in monitor removal and replacement, oxygen application and capnography training.
Patient Assessment and Care
Independently transports patients via stretcher and wheelchair (requested assistance for beds) with accompanying equipment safely, in a timely manner.
Maintains current certification in Basic Life Support (CPR) at all times during employment.
Selects, maintains, and troubleshoots all transport/lift equipment (i.e. wheelchairs, stretchers, lift equipment) for proper function, operation, and cleanliness, taking appropriate action when cleaning or repair is necessary.
Ability to read, write, and understand simple sentences in order to maintain logs and follow basic patient care.
Knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span and the ability to assess patient needs relative to his/her specific age and physical size/condition for safe transport/lift purposes.
Ability to work under stress due to consistent high demand for transport/lift resources
