Patient Transporter transports patients to and from their inpatient beds and other areas like therapy, surgery or radiology. Other responsibilities include retrieving medical records, lab results, supplies and medications. Being a Patient Transporter may require a high school diploma or its equivalent. Has knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Additionally, Patient Transporter typically reports to a supervisor. The Patient Transporter may require 0-1 year of general work experience. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Position Summary
Responsible for transporting patients, specimen, supplies, and equipment to and from patient care areas. Assists patients in walking, transferring from bed to wheelchair (manually lifting patients) and bathroom procedures.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities :
1. Transports patients between departments and to and from patient care units via wheelchair, stretcher or ambulation as requested.
2. Assists in other transportation duties as requested.
4. Signs patient off and back on patient care unit and checks patient’s wrist band before transporting.
5. Maintains chart with patient during transportation and keeps record of where the chart and patient are located at all times.
6. Protects patients by appropriate positioning and safely transporting.
7. Maintains oxygen supply and wheelchairs.
