The Patient Transporter may require 0-1 year of general work experience. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job.     Responsibilities

    • Demonstrates effective communication skills, appropriate to a professional atmosphere
    • Uses IPOD And Epic systems efficiently
    • Demonstrates the use of transporting a patient with oxygen from the wall unit to portable
    • Maintains protocol for the use of oxygen by doctor’s orders
    • Demonstrates safe handling of oxygen tank
    • Demonstrates proper height & placement of in-dwelling tubes and/or equipment attached to patients (including, but not limited to, cranial drains, Foley bags, IV’s etc.)
    • Communicates the patient’s location to staff through proper documentation
    • Signs patients in and out of the unit
    • Is sensitive to patient safety by visually observing patient and listening to patient during transport
    • Confirm patient identification by variety of methods
    • Assist patients using proper body mechanics with various modes of transport
    • Ensures patient and transporter safety by assessing the situation
    • Correctly assist patients with telemetry equipment and monitors, following proper departmental procedures
    • Is able to unhook and hook patients to telemetry and monitors
    • Communicates with telemetry department by phone
    • Follows proper MRI policy and procedures when transporting patients to MRI department
    • Completes proper documentation (ticket to ride) and has nurse to complete proper documentation (ticket to ride)
    • Ensures that MRI patients do not have IV or telemetry before leaving the unit to transport to MRI
    • Properly operates the patient beds, wheelchairs and stretchers
    • Able to safely transport and move patients from bed, stretcher or wheelchair to bed, stretcher or wheelchair
    • Aids and assists hospital staff with patient safety during procedures, images and transport as needed
    • Responsible for supervision of daily operation of the transport team
    • Assist in training and scheduling training for new team member
    • Responsible for answering department cell phone
    • Responsible for assigning lunches to staff
    • Responsible for adding, canceling, or updating transport jobs in EPIC

    Qualifications

    • Maintain CPR-basic life support certification, upon hire or within the first 3 months from DOH, renews as required
    • Safe Patient Handling within 5 months from DOH, renews yearly
    • High school or GED-Required 
    • Some college  Preferred.

    • Epic knowledge Preferred.
