  • A Safety Specialist is responsible for ensuring that employees follow health and safety regulations and assisting with operations to promote safety and awareness within the organization. Their duties include using safety research to eliminate workplace hazards, documenting accidents in the workplace and investigating the circumstances of an illness, events, or injury.

    Required Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree in science and or relevant degree or high school diploma plus 5 years of relevant experience.
    • 3 to 5 years of related experience
    • Familiarity with healthcare risk and compliance
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Able to work independently and collaboratively
    • Experience with the use of Microsoft Office software applications to manage patient data and create presentations
    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Risk Management experience or training.
    • Candidates who do not meet all of the preferred qualifications are encouraged to apply.
    • Assist manager with Thundermist incident reporting database related to organizational safety, ensuring appropriate safety-related root cause analysis and aggregated reporting of trends and issues.
    • Investigates safety incidents and provides satisfactory resolutions to the organization and maintains the status and classification of incidents presented in the incident reporting.
    • Assist with developing safety and emergency operations initiatives and tools to promote organizational safety and reduce overall safety-related incidents.
    • Responsible for reviewing and revising the Thundermist Emergency Operations Plan under the supervision and direction of the Risk Manager to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies.
    • Participates in Emergency Preparedness activities at the direction of the Risk Manager to fulfill CMS requirements around tabletop and full-scale emergency preparedness exercises.
    • Attends quarterly RICHA Emergency Preparedness and monthly Environmental of Care meetings.
    • Will assist the Risk and Safety Manager in training the organization in the Emergency Operation Plan protocols and procedures. Including providing onsite support of clinical leadership with implementing new and changes to existing safety and emergency operations protocols and procedures.
    • Assists and supports the Risk and Safety Manager in collaboration with the Occupational Health Department to ensure compliance with Thundermist’s OSHA plan and regulations.
    • Responsible for providing onsite support to site safety officers with training and ensuring compliance with annual requirements such as fire drills, and other mock drills as assigned.
    • Responsible for reviewing and revising the onsite safety tours and training for all new hires and existing employees.
    • Support the Risk and Safety manager in evaluating safety and compliance risks, and developing strategies to address gaps, which will include employee and site-level training.
    • Support the Risk and Safety manager in developing and metrics to analyze trends in safety data to address and reduce safety incidents.
    • Act as one of the subject matter experts on safety policies and procedures in the Risk Management Department
    • Supports Risk and Safety Manager in developing policies, procedures, and standing operating procedures to address known and unknown safety issues.
    • And other duties as assigned
