Position
· Patent Agent / Business Department
· Part Time Position: Up to 32hrs per week / To be discussed.
· FT Position: 40 hrs per week/ On-site M-F 8:25am – 5:10pm/ Greensboro, NC.
· Compensation: Up to $38 per hour
Qualification
· Must also have a background (Advanced Degree preferred) in Chemistry, Material science or a closely related field.
· Must be registered to practice before the USPTO (U.S. Patent and Trademark Office)
· Must be able to work in a fast-paced startup environment.
· Must have strong analytical skills.
· Must have excellent written and communication skills as well at the ability to effectively simplify complex information.
· Must be highly knowledgeable about the technical, scientific, and legal aspects of intellectual property.
· Must have an understanding of technologies regarding batteries in general and chemical synthesis and its processes.
· 3 years work experience as a USPTO patent agent/examiner or patent agent in patent office for preparing and prosecuting US patent applications preferred.
· Have prepared at least 50 original patent applications for filing in the USPTO.
Roles and Responsibilities
· Developing patent portfolios for technologies focused on advanced lithium battery materials included anode, cathode, separator, electrolyte, cell application, processes, and electric vehicle/aviation designs.
· Drafting and reviewing patent applications and identifying new inventions for intellectual property protection.
· Prepare, draft and file patent applications in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
· Assist with trademarks, patents, and copyright law issues
· Write descriptions of inventions in full detail using proper legal terms
· Work with other office staff to provide legal advice on all aspects of intellectual property, including but not limited to patents, copyrights, and inventions
· Maintain docket for patent and trademark matters
· Manage domestic and international portfolios
· Prepare responses to Office Actions
· Analyze patents in connection with due diligence or freedom to operate analyses and evaluating the patentable subject matter.
· Provide general IP support
· Advise on all aspects of intellectual property and regulatory exclusivity
· Participate in due diligence for acquisitions and licensing
· Review intellectual property provisions of contracts
