General Description
The Director of Nursing has the responsibility and authority to carry out the duties set forth in the regulations of the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians (BVNPT). Under the direction of the Campus Director, the DON provides administrative leadership for the Vocational Nursing Program and is accountable for the administration, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the program. This position works directly under the Campus Director and the main campus' Director of Nursing. The DON supervises faculty and staff and supports students in all nursing program areas.
Qualifications
Hold a current California active license as a Registered Nurse; and
Hold a Baccalaureate Degree from an approved school; and
Have a minimum of three years’ experience as a registered nurse; one year shall be in
teaching or clinical supervision, or a combination thereof, in a state approved registered
nursing or vocational or practical nursing, or psychiatric technician school within the last
five years; or a minimum of three years’ experience in nursing administration or nursing
education within the last five years; and
Have completed a course or courses offered by an approved school with instruction in
administration, teaching, and curriculum development
Equivalent experience and/or education as determined by the BVNPT
Demonstrated cultural competency, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse
academic, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds of program students, faculty and staff
Superior interpersonal and communication skills
Proficient in MS Office, Internet, and course management software
