Expectations and qualifications of a Pastoral Care Associate:

• Providing spiritual and emotional support to residents, families, and staff through regular and systematic visitation with special attention to new residents and residents on hospice/comfort care
• Functioning as a liturgical minister, including Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion
• Representing St. Martha Center & Villa at funerals of residents and staff, when possible
• Bachelor’s Degree in Theology, Religious Studies, Spirituality, or related field along with experience in pastoral ministry and servicePlease Note: only Catholics who have made Baptism, 1st Holy Communion and Confirmation are able to apply

Working Conditions:

•  Some direct contact with patients/residents with communicable disease using acceptable universal precautions.
•  Substantial time spent with patients, their loved ones, and staff, which requires a high degree of spiritual sensitivity, emotional energy, and mental alertness.
•  Must have mobility through the healthcare institution’s facilities, which are handicapped accessible.
•  Excellent listening skills required, as well as ability to handle stress associated with ministering to patients/residents and their loved ones who experience pain, suffering, death, and grief.
•  Comfort praying both spontaneously and formally with individuals and groups and speaking honestly about faith, hope, and charity, particularly within the context of end-of-life issues
