Parts Director oversees all parts operations including accounting, parts systems, processes and procedures. Improves parts operations to facilitate growth and successfully achieve the company's long-term strategic goals. Being a Parts Director designs policies and procedures for inspection, handling, and processing of parts to be exchanged. Ensures materials and parts are available in accordance with production schedules and commitments. Additionally, Parts Director reviews the parts inventory database and evaluates strategies to optimize inventory. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to senior management. The Parts Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Parts Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. Responsibilities:
- Manage the procurement and inventory of parts for the dealership's automotive repair and service department
- Develop and implement effective demand planning strategies to ensure optimal stock levels
- Collaborate with vendors and negotiate pricing and terms for parts purchases
- Maintain accurate records of parts inventory using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
- Monitor and analyze parts usage and identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements
- Coordinate with the service department to ensure timely availability of parts for repairs and maintenance
- Train and supervise parts staff to ensure proper handling, storage, and organization of inventory
- Develop and maintain relationships with OEM suppliers to stay up-to-date on new products and promotions
Experience:
- Previous experience in parts management within an automotive dealership or repair facility
- Strong knowledge of automotive parts, including their functions, compatibility, and pricing
- Familiarity with CMMS or other inventory management systems
- Proven ability to negotiate with vendors and secure favorable pricing and terms
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
- Strong analytical skills to monitor inventory levels, track usage, and identify trends
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to meet department goals
