Additionally, Parole Officer typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Parole Officer gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Hennepin County is hiring one or more Probation/Parole Officers for the Treatment Courts in the Department of Community Corrections and Rehabilitation (DOCCR). These positions are open to different levels of experience/qualifications and could be hired into the Probation Officer (PO), Senior PO, or Career PO level depending on related experience of the candidate. These positions could be assigned to either the Drug court or the Mental Health court.
The purpose of these roles is to supervise a caseload of high-risk, primarily felony-level probation cases with a wide variety of offense histories, adhering to DOCCR policy. These positions are responsible for independent engagement in courts from all sending jurisdictions to actively case manage the violation processes in addition to complying with the supervision expectations dictated by the Treatment Court Handbook(s).
These positions will work successfully cross-cultures, respectful of lived experiences in all communications and demonstrate on-going expansion of one’s own awareness and understanding of culture and active support for equity. Individuals who bring forth a combination of diverse employment history and lived experience are strongly encouraged to apply.

Probation/Parole Officer, Senior salary: $63,084.38 - $94,626.57 Annually
Probation/Parole Officer, Career salary: $69,550.52 - $104,325.79 AnnuallyLocation and hours:These positions are hybrid and will be performed both on-site at the Hennepin County Government Center, 300 South 6th Street, Minneapolis, Minnesota 55415 and remote as job duties require. Work hours are generally Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. to 4: 30 p.m.
While these positions are designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.
New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022 to December 31, 2024, will receive $500 toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment.

In these positions, you will:- Monitor a high contact caseload and verify compliance with probation conditions.
- Conduct orientation of new clients.
- Conduct actuarial, mental health, chemical health, and risk/need assessments and interpret them to inform case plans and respond to observed behaviors using evidence-based practices.
- Supervise clients in accordance with supervision standards and case plans.
- Accept/deny transfer requests; prepare violation reports, progress reports and discharge reports.
- Assess client risk, needs and strengths; make appropriate referrals to community agencies.
- Respond to concerns of probationers; respond to alerts from law enforcement.
- Individuals hired at the Probation Officer (PO) level must demonstrate an ability to supervise a caseload with the least complex cases within the unit and build proficiency and competency with essential functions of the position through formal and informal training, and perform the duties listed above.
- Individuals hired at the Senior PO level must operate with limited oversight and demonstrate an ability to actively case manage more complex cases, independently developing/adjusting supervision and/or case plans and defending decisions independently in Court, and perform the duties listed above.
- Individuals hired at the Career PO level must demonstrate an ability to operate independently with the most complex cases within the unit, are proficient with correctional Evidence Based Practices, and may stand in for a Corrections Unit Supervisor (CUS) to coach Senior- and PO-level peers on their work assignments requiring higher level functions.
- For hire as Probation/Parole Officer, one of the following:
- Associate degree in any field and four or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
- Bachelor's degree in non-related field and two or more years of relevant full-time equivalent approved, related paid or volunteer experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
- Bachelor's degree in sociology, social work, criminal justice, psychology, counseling, law enforcement, education, or a related field, and one or more years of full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
- Master's degree or higher in sociology, social work, criminal justice, psychology, counseling, law enforcement, education, or a related field; including the completion of a supervised clinical field work training/internship (if required by degree program).
- Note: The Evidence Based Practice Corrections Professional Certificate may be substituted for one year of relevant experience.
- For hire as Probation/Parole Officer, Senior, one of the following:
- Associate degree in any field and six or more years full-time equivalent paid experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
- Bachelor's degree in non-related field and four or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
- Bachelor's degree in sociology, social work, criminal justice, psychology, counseling, law enforcement, education, or a related field, and three or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.

- Experience:
- Performing case management with clients served by the justice system or human services.
- Working in a probation or supervised release (parole) position.
- Knowledge of:
- The criminal justice system.
- The principles of Evidence-Based Practices.

- Use differing intervention strategies which facilitate offender change.
- Work with a diverse population.
- Excellent communication skills and well organized, detail oriented, and comfortable with evolving technology.
