Seasonal Park Aide

Summary Statement: The Seasonal Park Aide position will be responsible for assisting staff with all aspects of maintaining the park grounds and its facilities. This will include, but not be limited to, mowing grass, weeding, mulching, pruning/trimming, hazardous tree removal, picking up and removing trash, cleaning restrooms, cleaning and repairing of structures, trail maintenance, painting, and participation in projects involving carpentry and plumbing work.
Employees will work in the visitor center operating the campground reservation system, provide excellent customer service, complete retail sales and boat/equipment rentals, and facilitate the loaner program. Employees will also present outdoor campfire programs and Junior Ranger programs for children if interested.
Employees will also assist in compliance of fees and park rules. Employees will be required to work outside in all weather conditions. Employees will work night, day, weekend, and holiday shifts.
Hiring as soon as possible, preferably full-time to fill one position. Position not to exceed five (5) months. Must be able to work through Labor Day 2023.
Essential Functions:
· Performs grounds maintenance tasks such as mowing, trimming, trail maintenance, landscape bed maintenance, trash removal, vegetation removal, tree removal, and slash cleanup.
· Performs custodial services in restrooms, offices, and other buildings.
· Operation of landscaping equipment and use of hand and power tools.
· Set-up, monitor, clean-up, and support park programs and special events.
· Develop and present interpretive and environmental awareness programs for park visitors, school groups, and organizations.
· Assists with IDPR’s Junior Ranger program.
· Promote activities within the state park to the public.
· Provides information to visitors and the public regarding park history, geology, plants, and animals.
· Collects fees.
· Ensures compliance with outdoor recreation programs, park rules and regulations, and fees.
· Maintains good public relations with park visitors and staff.
· Provides excellent customer service and park information to visitors.
· Must be able to demonstrate responsibility, dependability, and good communication skills.
· Maintain a positive attitude and be able to work individually and in a team.
