Paramedic provides emergency advanced life support care to patients who are ill and/or injured. Conducts patient assessment to determine the extent of an illness or injury and to establish and prioritize medical procedures to follow. Being a Paramedic performs life support procedures or administers oxygen. Dispenses antiseptic solution to prevent infection, starts and administers intravenous fluids. Additionally, Paramedic performs other emergency medical procedures needed to stabilize patient during transport. Provides an update on patient's condition and status of treatments when transferring to other medical personnel. May require registry in NREMT. Typically requires an associate degree in an accredited Paramedic program. Requires Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Requires Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - Basic. Typically reports to a manager. The Paramedic works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Provide pre-hospital Advanced Life Support (ALS) care in all weather conditions, in cooperation with other EMS providers as a member of the patient care team. Care will be rendered to patients of all ages whom experience any injury or illness, utilizing appropriate equipment and techniques to safely assess, treat, lift, move and transport patients to appropriate medical facilities. Complete all required documentation and other assigned duties which support efficient EMS operations while maintaining a professional attitude.
2 years’ experience within an active EMS system providing Advanced Life Support (ALS).
High School Diploma
Current NJ Paramedic certification or eligible for reciprocity, NREMT-P preferred.
Current BLS, ACLS, PALS or PEPP or EPC certifications; PHTLS within 1 year.
ICS-100 or equivalent and IS-700 or equivalent upon hire. ICS-200 or equivalent and IS-800 or equivalent within first year of employment.
Current state issued driver's license with clean driving record.
All candidates must be at least 21 years of age by start date to comply with vehicle insurance requirements.
