Paramedic provides emergency advanced life support care to patients who are ill and/or injured. Conducts patient assessment to determine the extent of an illness or injury and to establish and prioritize medical procedures to follow. Being a Paramedic performs life support procedures or administers oxygen. Dispenses antiseptic solution to prevent infection, starts and administers intravenous fluids. Additionally, Paramedic performs other emergency medical procedures needed to stabilize patient during transport. Provides an update on patient's condition and status of treatments when transferring to other medical personnel. May require registry in NREMT. Typically requires an associate degree in an accredited Paramedic program. Requires Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Requires Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - Basic. Typically reports to a manager. The Paramedic works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function.     Job Description

    Job Summary:
    The EMT/Paramedic will be assigned to a facility serving a Native American/American Indian community in Belcourt, ND. This is a full-time position, requiring a minimum 12-month commitment. The EMT/Paramedic will respond to 911 calls, assesses the condition of patients, and make decisions regarding proper courses of action. Provide basic, intermediate, and advanced life support treatment to patients, and transports to appropriate medical facility. EMT/Paramedic will also be a resource for ED physicians and providers in cases where the emergency department requires their assistance and skill set as an additional resource in the Emergency Department. 

    The medical facility serves a population of 14,550 Native Americans, includes a 25-bed hospital, provides specialty inpatient and outpatient services, and provides 24/7 Emergency services, laboratory, radiology, and pharmacy services.

    Compensation:

    • Non-exempt  
    • $22 - 28 per hour

    Duties/Responsibilities: 

    • Perform emergency medical care and transport ill and injured persons.
    • Communicates tactfully, professionally, and sensitively to the patient(s), family, bystanders, volunteers, and other professionals.
    • Operate emergency vehicles safely.
    • Maintain vehicle and equipment; cleans and restock vehicle, equipment, and quarters.
    • Accurately records patient data, assessment, and treatments provided on Electronic Patient Care Reporting (ePCR) system.
    • Adhere to policy and HIPPA requirements regarding patients’ rights and privacy.
    • Complete and file the appropriate documentation for each run in a timely manner for continuance of care, QA/QI, and proper billing workflow.
    • Promotes an environment and culture of safety, teamwork, and respect.
    • Always maintain a professional attitude and appearance.
    • Administer emergency care and treatment and determine the nature and extent of illness or injury and establishes priority for required emergency care.
    • Paramedics may need to assist and give direction to additional Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Responders at the scene and/or during transport
    • Paramedics, based on their assessment, will provide emergency care to adults, infants and children, medical and trauma patients
    • Determine the appropriate facility that patients should be transported to based on their knowledge of the condition of the patients and the extent of their injuries unless otherwise indicated by medical direction
    • Constantly assess the patient while in route to the emergency facility, administers additional care as indicated or given by medical direction
    • Paramedics may use equipment included in the medical transport environments
    • Observe, record, and report to physician the patient's condition or injury, the treatment provided, and reactions to drugs or treatment at the emergency scene and in transit to the receiving facility staff for purposes of records and diagnostics
    • Paramedics will demonstrate good communication with the receiving facility to get medical direction and to provide patient's status and other critical information
    • Complete extensive written documentation on patient condition and treatment provided, as well as understand all applicable legal, moral, and ethical issues surrounding the emergency medical service
    • Paramedics maintain communication with the patient and the family, comforts and reassures patients and be able to demonstrate concern and courtesy while maintaining confidentiality of the patient's information
    • Assist with patient care in the receiving facility; lifting and moving patients as required

    Required Skills/Abilities:

    Education and Experience:  

    • Required: High School diploma
    • Required: EMT and Paramedic must possess a current, unrestricted state certification from any of the 50 United States, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a Territory of the US. 
    • Required: EMT and Paramedic must have a current National Registry Certification and the ability to obtain North Dakota state license. License verification must be provided at the time of application.
    • Required: Licensing and certification must be maintained throughout the contract.
    • Required: EMT must possess current CPR/Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and other life support certifications, that are required depending on the level of EMS Professional certification requirements.
    • Required: Paramedic must possess current Basic Life Support (BLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and other life support certifications, that are required depending on the level of EMS Professional certification requirements.
    • Required: Must have a valid, unrestricted driver's license throughout the contract.
    • Required: Must have a clean driving record.
    • License verification, education, and certifications must be provided at the time of application and can be emailed to certification@chloeta.com.  

     

    Physical Requirements:

    • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
    • At the time of hire, must provide a fitness for duty certificate issued by a licensed physician to perform the proposed job without significant risk to personal health or the health and safety of others.
    • At the time of hire, must provide documentation of evidence of immunization as required by IHS immunization policy.
