Paralegal Supervisor supervises the paralegal team and implements systems and processes utilized to conduct research and produce legal documents. Coordinates the preparation of legal documents and tracks projects to ensure the work is completed accurately and on time. Being a Paralegal Supervisor organizes documents into formal report and proofs for attorneys. Trains paralegals to effectively utilize databases and legal libraries to conduct research. Additionally, Paralegal Supervisor typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically requires Paralegal Certification. Typically reports to a manager. The Paralegal Supervisor supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions.     Position Summary

    Under general supervision this position performs and supervises a broad variety of professional paralegal work and leadership duties as a member of a unit's management team. This position also performs the work of a Paralegal-Advanced on complex litigation of significance directly related to the operations of the Division of Legal Services. A primary component of this position requires the exercise of independent judgment and discretion with the authority to make decisions on matters which affect the legal operations of a unit within the division.
    This position is responsible for complying with all applicable laws, and all Department of Justice policies, procedures and practices within the division and the unit. This position also provides general, administrative, program, and technical support. This position independently oversees, trains, and provides paralegal–advanced support in complex litigation. As a supervisor, this employee is privy to confidential matters affecting the employer-employee relationship.
    Salary Information

    The Paralegal Supervisor - Advanced position is in pay schedule 81 and pay range 03. The starting pay will be between $31.00 - $43.46/hour (approx. $64,480 - $90,396 annually). Pay for current or former state employees will follow the provisions found in the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan. A 12-month probationary period may be required.
    Job Details

    This position may be eligible to work remotely as part of a hybrid schedule, following an initial training period. Opportunities for a hybrid work schedule will be discussed during the interview process. Travel to the headquarters is not eligible for travel reimbursement.
    High speed internet access is required to meet the needs of remote work.
    The Department of Justice does not sponsor work visas at the time of hire or anytime during employment. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete the required Employment Eligibility Form I-9.
    A background check, including fingerprints, will be completed on applicants prior to selection.
    Qualifications

    Minimally qualified applicants must have professional work experience in the following : Providing professional paralegal assistance and support to multiple attorneys. Managing multiple tasks and prioritizing competing deadlines. Reviewing, proofreading, and drafting communications/documents to include the proper use of grammar, punctuation, and legal terminology. Proficiency in the use of a database or case management software (e.g. Time Matters) and common office technology programs (e.g. MS Word, Excel, Outlook, or comparable software).
    In addition to the minimum qualifications, a well-qualified applicant will have professional work experience in the following: Leadership or mentorship role in a legal setting to include coordinating workflow, or mentoring/training a new employee. Working within a government agency or public sector setting. Independently managing complex litigation in state circuit or federal district court, or appeals in state or federal courts.
