Paralegal assists and supports attorneys with research and document preparation for court proceedings and legal transactions. Utilizes a variety of sources such as statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, and legal codes to research and analyze legal topics. Being a Paralegal drafts and edits legal documents such as briefs, pleadings, motions, and contracts. Conducts fact-finding, data collection, and analysis used to prepare statements and arguments. Additionally, Paralegal assists attorneys with depositions, interviews, discovery, and investigations. Manages, organizes, and archives documents with software tools and technology. Applies specialized legal terminology appropriately in documents. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically requires Paralegal Certification. Typically reports to an attorney. The Paralegal work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. Contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project. To be a Paralegal typically requires 4 -7 years of related experience.     JOB OVERVIEW

    The Paralegal supports the legal department by logging, researching, analyzing, and responding to internal and external client and third-party concerns and document requests. In this role, you will also assist counsel with projects, organizing and recordkeeping of complaints and litigation, and day-to-day administrative tasks.

    RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

    • Research and retrieve information and documents from trust accounting and workflow systems in response to subpoenas and requests for documents and information from internal and external parties
    • Assist with researching and decisioning legal mail for proper recipient and response
    • Research, analyze, log, and respond to customer complaints, general correspondence, subpoena requests and internal client requests
    • Work with legal counsel in analyzing, researching, and resolving legal matters
    • Serve as the point-person for the legal department for all departments of the company
    • Attend meetings for legal counsel with internal clients on matters involving operations and fact gathering
    • Interact with clients and explain the company’s position on client concerns; handle escalated customer phone calls
    • Manage legal matter tracking/filing system, ensuring all matters are timely and completely recorded
    • Generate reports for internal counsel from company systems, as requested
    • Search public records for court filings and other documents
    • Record and document all customer and department communications
    • Collaborate with various departments to understand and evaluate root causes of complaints
    • Review and revise corporate forms, and assist with the creation of PowerPoint and other presentations
    • Provide administrative support for the legal department, including calendaring, scheduling, and telephone assistance
    • Recommend modifications and improvements to processes
    • Assist with the implementation of programs/initiatives to enhance risk awareness
    • Perform other duties as assigned

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • HS diploma required, Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or related field preferred
    • Minimum 2 years of experience in paralegal or dispute resolution services required
    • Financial services experience preferred

    PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATIONS

    • Paralegal certification preferred

    TECHNICAL SKILLS

    To be successful in this role, you should have experience with and an understanding of the following:

    • Data entry and analysis
    • Adobe Acrobat Reader/Pro DC
    • Microsoft Office suite of applications including Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and PowerPoint

    This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to speak and hear. The associate is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time, as well as stand, walk, use hands and fingers, and reach with hands and arms. This job requires the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.
