Paralegal assists and supports attorneys with research and document preparation for court proceedings and legal transactions. Utilizes a variety of sources such as statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, and legal codes to research and analyze legal topics. Being a Paralegal drafts and edits legal documents such as briefs, pleadings, motions, and contracts. Conducts fact-finding, data collection, and analysis used to prepare statements and arguments. Additionally, Paralegal assists attorneys with depositions, interviews, discovery, and investigations. Manages, organizes, and archives documents with software tools and technology. Applies specialized legal terminology appropriately in documents. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically requires Paralegal Certification. Typically reports to an attorney. The Paralegal work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. Contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project. To be a Paralegal typically requires 4 -7 years of related experience.     The Paralegal will support attorney(s) by coordinating case flow, maintaining/drafting documents and corresponding with court clerks for efficient case load management.

    Reporting and Accountability:

    • The paralegal reports directly to, and is accountable to, the lead attorney.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
    • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

    Education and Experience:

    • Related experience in paralegal role preferred

    Duties/Responsibilities:

    • Meets with attorneys to discuss assigned cases or projects.
    • Drafts and files legal documents including routine pleadings, motions and affidavits.
    • Prepares, organizes and retrieves case files, which may include evidence, exhibits, depositions, pleadings, exhibits, and other items.
    • Assists attorneys with trial preparation, which may include attending trials and hearings.
    • Maintains records of billable hours spent on assigned cases.

    Required Skills/Abilities:

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Understanding of legal principles, court pleadings and processes.
    • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality, and to exercise discretion and good judgment.

    Job Type: Full-time

    Pay: $32,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
