ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Prepares surfaces for painting, or wallpaper by techniques such as washing, scraping, sanding, wire brushing and filling joints and nail holes with appropriate materials.
- Removes old paint by paint removers, heat guns, torch or scrapers.
- Applies coats of paint, varnish, stains, sealer, enamel, lacquers to decorate and protect interior and exterior surfaces, furniture, and equipment. Uses brushes, rollers, and other methods to apply coatings, and cleans and maintains same.
- Selects premixed paints and finishes or mixes own to color match by blending and mixing pigments, thinning, and drying substances.
- Removes furniture and spreads drop cloths, plastic, or canvas to protect floors and bases. Erects signs and scaffolding as necessary.
- Takes safety precautions in work areas to prevent injury to others.
- Cleans area upon completion of painting and replaces all furniture.
- Hangs vinyl, and other wall coverings, and makes repairs to materials as necessary Calculates, selects, and orders materials to complete assigned tasks.
- Duties may include demolition, remodeling, construction, repair, installation of plumbing, and installation of components from blueprints, sketches, or verbal orders
- Performs general maintenance duties when directed by Supervisor.
- Always maintains clean and safe work areas, including mechanical and storage areas.
- Responds to hospital emergencies in accordance with Hospital / Engineering Department procedures such as fire alarms, Inclement weather and maintains effective training for Emergency Preparedness as directed by hospital safety committees.
EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge acquired through a high school education, or vocational school.
- Previous work experience of two or more years in a similar work environment.
- Demonstrated skills needed to know when to deviate from established procedures, in order to accomplish desired results.
- Must possess good over-all mechanical skills and color vision.
- Strong carpentry skills, including the ability to accurately measure, cut, and install countertops.
- Must have a current Virginia driver’s license.
- Ability to work varied shifts and schedules to accommodate hospital needs.
- Physical ability to: Climb and set ladders, including extension ladders.
- Move furniture by hand.
- Carry equipment and supplies to and from job sites.
