Continuous Improvement Manager

  • Position Overview:

    This individual is responsible for the effective execution of our continuous improvement objectives. In this hands-on role, this person will lead the effort to support operations by implementing and sustaining Lean Manufacturing processes aimed at improving line efficiency/process optimization, product quality, labor utilization, layout optimization and operating costs for both existing and new products. In addition, this position will lead training and developing employees across facilities in relation to Lean concepts and tools, allowing individuals to drive continuous improvements within their departments and foster the growth of a Continuous Improvement culture and mindset.

    General:

    • Support the implementation and sustainability of the Management Operating System across facilities.
    • Lead in analyzing current processes and identify improvement opportunities.
    • Lead Improvement projects assuring time and resource budgets are met
    • Support and coach Operational Teams with project plans and project execution, to safely and with quality, meet time and resource budgets for successful fit for purpose implementations.
    • Projects may include materials, process optimization, cycle time reduction, scrap reduction, start-up of new systems, and new product development and introduction.
    • The role will assist manufacturing with documentation of SOPs, solutions to complex food processing issues and production system design.
    • Be accountable for safe solutions that obtain optimal technical, economic, and environmental benefits for the company.
    • Lead and be accountable for the technical execution of CI projects in an effective and sustainable manner against project benchmarks.
    • Support good, open communication within the project participants, promoting a culture of involvement and participation with adherence to company values.
    • Lead cross functional teams in support of or related to Continuous Improvement initiatives and special projects.
    • Perform process analysis (like Line Time Study, Mass Balance, Down Time analysis) to contribute to the continuous process improvement.
    • Implement and foster capability analysis (six sigma approach) for new processes and production lines.
    • Lead and coach teams to achieve 5s and ensure improvements are sustained and entrenched within the business.
    • As necessary, host, lead, and facilitate Kaizen improvement events.
    • Train employees across facilities on Continuous Improvement techniques as needed to assure complete familiarity and ease of use. This includes Principles of Lean Manufacturing, Takt Time, Standardization, 5S, Standard Work Cell Layout, Value Stream Mapping, LDMS, Root-Cause Problem Solving and other Lean Manufacturing/Continuous Improvement techniques.
    • Build effective working relationships with other departments in the company and other parties as appropriate.

    Qualifications:

    • 3 years in a Continuous Improvement role
    • Bachelors/University Degree in Engineering required with emphasis in industrial, food, or chemical processing.
    • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification; Black Belt certification preferred.
    • Knowledge of food processing and demonstrated strengths in mechanically oriented manufacturing processes.
    • Knowledge of automated assembly and related technologies.
    • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing (or TPS).
    • Ability to learn quickly and keep pace with scientific/engineering developments
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Written and verbal communication skills and the ability to present complex technical issues in a clear and concise manner.
    • Ability to build positive cross-functional and intra plant relationships with both internal and external peers and stakeholders.
    • Must possess good organizational skills and flexibility to achieve priorities.
    • Ability to speak English.
    • Willingness to learn new tasks and is dependable
    • Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish)
