Special Requirements / Qualification Profile: 

· Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Science or Engineering
related field 

· 5 /- years of experience      

• High degree of creativity, ability to work both independently, and with a cross-functional team 
• Familiarity with warehouse/distribution processes 
• Excellent written and oral communications skills 
• Familiarity with SAP is desired but not a requirement

Purpose of the Job:

· As a Packaging Engineer, you will be responsible for influencing the business through your ideas, research and development of new packaging and packaging efficiencies. You will have the opportunity to: construct, calculate and supervise internal and external containers and packaging for SMP Tuscaloosa
      

Main Tasks:   

• Develop and analyze packaging options with internal teams and external suppliers  
• Provide flexible and innovative packaging solutions that drive a competitive advantage 
• Ensure priorities are aligned with overall project priorities 
• Ensure delivery of assigned objectives for scope, time, budget, and cash flow 
• Identify most cost-effective options while maintaining package integrity  
• Own and manage packaging projects  
• Prepare and maintain packaging specifications  
• Work through resource availability, external constraints and shared functional or operational resources to identify opportunities for improvements  
• Ensure designed packaging protects product quality to end customer 
• Support initiatives that shorten new product and project cycle times
