    About The Team

    North America R&D Packaging at Haleon is a diverse team with colleagues from a variety of backgrounds and experience. Our function has three priorities: to deliver and strengthen the innovation pipeline with superior packaging solutions, to lead the transformation on sustainable packaging and to anticipate the development of emerging packaging technologies & solutions. Underpinning this is an appetite for building class-leading R&D packaging development capability and a sustained focus on looking after each other and nurturing our talent.

    About the role

    As a Senior Packaging Engineer specializing in Sustainable Packaging, you will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and implementing environmental-friendly packaging solutions. The position is part of a dynamic North America R&D team with responsibility to deliver innovation led growth for the US and Canada business units, coupled with Haleon packaging sustainability goals for 2025 & 2030. The role will lead initiatives to minimize environmental impact, optimize material usage, and enhance the sustainability of our packaging and packaging processes. Candidates require a deep understanding of packaging materials, manufacturing techniques as well as, FTC environmental and FDA regulation.

    The role will be based out of our Warren office in NJ or our R&D site in Richmond, VA.

    Role Responsibilities

    • Sustainable Packaging Development: Lead the development of sustainable packaging solutions that minimize waste, reduce carbon footprint, and enhance recyclability. Utilize innovative materials and techniques to achieve eco-friendly packaging goals.
    • Material Selection and Optimization: Evaluate packaging materials to ensure they meet sustainability criteria, including recyclability and renewable sourcing. Collaborate with suppliers to identify and qualify sustainable materials for packaging applications.
    • Life Cycle assessment (LCA) Support development of life cycle assessments to analyse the environmental impact of packaging solutions throughout their entire life cycle. Use LCA data to inform decision-making and optimize packaging designs for sustainability.
    • Regulatory Compliance and Industry Standards: Stay abreast of North America regulations and standards related to sustainable packaging, such as Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) schemes, FTC Green Guidelines, How2Recycle, Association of Packaging Recyclers and packaging waste directives. Ensure packaging designs comply with relevant regulations and certifications.
    • Innovation and Research: Stay updated on emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in sustainable packaging. Drive innovation through research and development initiatives focused on advancing sustainable packaging solutions.
    • Create specifications, reports, protocols, sustainability metrics, and other technical documentation as per relevant internal and external standards in compliance with the quality and regulatory requirements.

    Basic Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in a related field of study (Packaging, Chemical, Mechanical, or Industrial), or Science (Material Science, Polymer Chemistry, or related fields)
    • At least 8 years of experience in FMCG or Healthcare packaging industry, with 2-3 years of experience in a role leading packaging project.
    • Strong technical expertise in the field of sustainable packaging materials, formats, and applications with a very good understanding of emerging trends and technologies.
    • Track record of delivering innovation to the marketplace along with a good grasp of the associated challenges to anticipate and resolve issues, mitigate risks, and make sound recommendations for decision making.
    • Experience in end-to-end package development (ideation to launch).
    • Sound understanding of packing line equipment and processes at the manufacturing sites.
    • Ability to solve technical and operational problems with scientific rigor.
    • Strong communication skill to clearly express ideas and summarize complex information effectively.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Master's degree in a related field of study (Packaging, Chemical, Mechanical, or Industrial), or Science (Material Science, Polymer Chemistry, or related fields).
    • Experience working in CPG or Consumer Healthcare companies is highly preferred.
    • Project management skills.

    Location: This role is Hybrid based in: Warren, NJ or Richmond, VA.

    The salary range for this role is: $93,272 to $139,908 plus a 12% bonus.
